June 2018 - The Book Thief

"When Death has a story to tell, you listen."

Written by Markus Zusak, and told through the eyes of Death, The Book Thief tells the story of Liesel, a girl who faces tragedies, Death, and a bit of happiness and humor. Liesel makes new friends and learns how to read and steal, perfect for book theft. Markus Zusak illustrates the idea that although bad things will happen, so will good ones in The Book Thief. This beautifully written book, intended for ages 12 and up, is very sad due to the fact that the book takes place during World War II and is told by Death, who is very busy during this period. This historical fiction book is about 550 pages long. The Book Thief is a magnificent page-turner that is hard to put down even past your bedtime. When the Nazis come to inspect each house, you will be on the edge of your seat nervous for Max Vandenburg. And, while Liesel is stealing one of the many things she wants, you will get caught up in the excitement hoping she does not get caught.
